Instructional Yoga Video Clips

Please note: the postures show here are not the Gravity Poses I teach in the YOGABODY Handbook, but they will give you an idea of how an open body can make yoga practice much more enjoyable. Eventually, you’ll worry less about the postures themselves and more about the internal practice of yoga; but for most of us, the physical body is the place to start and that’s why flexibility training can be so beneficial.

How to: Yoga Backbend Dropbacks

Learn how to go from wheel pose, to standing, and then back to wheel pose again and again. This is an advanced back-bending posture that can be learned once the front of your body is open enough to practice wheel pose with straight arms.

How to: Kapotasana (pigeon pose)

Learn backbend variations that get progressively more challenging, eventually working up to grabbing your heals in kapotasana pose. Important to remember is that entire front of the body needs to be open including the tops of the legs.

Learn Headstand (Sirsasana Pose)

Sirsasana, or headstand, looks quite difficult, but is actually a very simple yoga pose that anyone can learn in 1-4 weeks. Inverted yoga postures can feel scary or awkward, but once you get used to the sensation, they are actually quite enjoyable.

Sun Salutations (Version A)

Sun salutations are an amazing series of asanas linked together using the breath as the guide. Each breath initiates a new movement with the only pause being in downward facing dog for 5 breaths. All the other movements come in a 1 breath to 1 movement ratio.

Samui Channel Yoga Show

Here’s a clip from my morning yoga show in Thailand from a couple years back… here’re you’ll see a simpler version of Sun Salutations that can be practiced as a gentler alternative with less upper body strength needed. This is a hybrid of a classic sun salute.

How YOGABODY Works Video

I made this little video to illustrate how YOGABODY works and why I recommend Gravity Poses and proper nutrition for big flexibility gains. The idea is to give your body all the nutrients it needs, and then practice highly focused, passive stretches targeting just one area at a time, one day at a time.

Triangle Pose Demonstration Video

The standing series contain what are really the foundation and most-powerful postures in any yoga class. When practice properly, they can build internal heat, strength, and flexibility very quickly and safely.

Warrior Sequence Demo Video

The warrior sequence is one that students often rush through, but when done slowly, it can be very powerful for building both strength and flexibility. To keep you body aligned, aim to have the front heal line up with the back heal with the hips moving toward squared.

Backbend Preparation Pose

To prepare for backbends, here are some gentle-yet-powerful preparatory postures we can practice to make it easier when we want to try more challenging postures. Here, we’re focusing on freeing up the pelvis so we can relieve some of the tension from the lower back.
